Hello from the schizophrenic county of Clare. Jesus, sunshine or rain, will you bloody decide already!?

-I’ve been bouncing around on various jobs in the last couple of weeks, covers, scripts, etc, as well as a lot of prep work for an imminent Kickstarter [more below].

-I handed in my penultimate RIBBON QUEEN cover, just one more to go. I may have said this before [sorry?] but this has been a great side gig. I enjoy doing variants of course but I really like being a series cover artist where you help create an identity for a book and flesh out more story ideas. Especially in this case, working directly with Garth Ennis giving me cover prompts. I don’t always like working like that, but Garth is a creative hero of mine, so bee a real honour to work with him. By the way, if anyone tells him I said that, I will kill you. Here’s a little peek of what I just handed in.

-I had a short and sweet trip to Dublin Comic Con, the panel with Triona Farrell went greay. If the recording goes live, I’ll be sure to share it here. Saw the new TURTLES movie while I was up there and it was excelent.

-The CORK COMIC EXPO [secret name: WILL-CON] was announced. I don’t know if I’m supposed to say or not but …I’ll be there. I went to the last one a few years ago and it was great fun, so expecting more of the same. The show is on Sept 16th, I’ll be bringing some books down, possibly even some copies of Old Dog if my comps arrive in time. No guarantees!

-I can also reveal I’ll be at NEW YORK COMIC CON in October! I’ll be jetting off soon after my appearance at ROMICS in Italy, so I hope I’ll have the energy… ain’t getting any younger! No way I’m missing it though, I love NYCC.

-Art for CRYPT OF SHADOWS is all in. Alex Lins did a fantastic job. It’s exciting to work with newer art talent, to see new spins on characters you’ve drawn/want to draw, but it’s also terrifying as you know there’s a whole generation of people about to run rings around you.

-I saw BOOM Studios released this variant cover I did for Si Spurrier and Charlie Adlard’s excellent DAMN THEM ALL series. The editor was happy for me to play with the logo, so play with it I did. Was great to be offered this variant for Issue Eight, I believe.

-New cover art up on Cadence Comic Art, including my ALINE ANNUAL cover [link] and my WALKING DEAD/TIME BEFORE TIME cover [link]

OLD DOG /DOSSIER

[REDACT ONE] is off to printer. I’m letting some stories for what will be [REDACT TWO] stew in my brain for now. Need a breath of fresh air before I dive back in. I’m looking into organising some signings around Ireland at the end of September, though with the CORK COMIC EXPO, I reckon I have that county covered. I’ve updated links to buy the book [now including some Irish options] with a dedicated page over on my website. [link]

Since Issue Six has been out a while, I figured it’s be safe to show ye my colour layouts for the issue…

If you didn’t read the last Declarations, I’m putting together a process edition book about OLD DOG. Looking at the script, pencils, inks, colours for #1, layouts for the whole series, and a deep dive interview with David Harper. Designer Ryan Brewer is putting it together for me and it’s looking great. Here’s an exclusive peek inside.

I’ll be launching for real on Thursday this week but wanted to give ye guys an advance look, hoping ye’ll click on the notify button on the launch page and pledge for the book as soon as it goes live. I’ve wanted to do something like this with my own work for ages, so I’m packing everything I can into the book, and offering up some cool rewards. [link again]

I will have an Old Dog bookmarks, Rottweiler/Retriever trading cards, Black Circle stickers and Black Circle pins as rewards.

And yes, there’s be some art! I’m offering some head-sketches on OLD DOG #1 sketch covers, as well as very limited cover commission slots.

Keep all this to yereselves for now, going to try roll out a bit of a media blitz on Thursday if I can, but if you see some Dossier promo online, please do spread the word. Twitter/Insta reach is abysmal for me these days, so you army of Decolytes are my secret weapon.

ALIEN

Issue Five is out now, wrapping up our THAW arc. I’m so very happy with how the book turned out and am very satisfied with how it ended. Only downside is that Triona Farrell wasn’t able to stay on the book, but Ruth Redmond kindly stepped in, really keeping the look of the book and quality of the title consistent and I can happily say that she is staying on for the next arc, and has handed in her pages for the ALIEN ANNUAL. Here she is, adding pure magic to Danny Earls’ pages.

Danny handed in the last of his pages last week and man, I am gonna miss getting them.

I handed in my 9th Alien script last week and dealt with some edits from 20th regarding the previous issue. All for my section as it turns out, so that’s not gonna slow down Andrea Broccardo, who is firing through brilliant pages for Issue One of DESCENDANT. He’s just wrapped up the issue, in fact.

I’m waiting on approvals for my pencils on Issue One but once I get them, will dive into inking. Between us, I’ve one more issue to script on Alien; I was initially offered ten issues from Marvel so we’ll see if they want me to do more. I do hope so, as I’m really enjoying the gig; writing in this universe and getting to work with this fantastic creative and editorial team.

TIME BEFORE TIME

Geoffo has finished his pages! They are of course, great. We have all of Joe Palmer’s pages in too, so that’s all the line art for the book in.

Hassan will have letters for #28 [Geoffo’s last issue] in soon, as Chris will with colours. That’ll just leave us with the final issue… aaaah!
